Ganapathy Iyer Girls High School
Educational Trust for Underprivileged Girls
Ganapathy Iyer Girls Highschool is a part of the Gopalapuram Educational Society Trust established over 85 years ago. The school caters to underprivileged girls, providing them not only with wholesome education, but a safe environment conducive to learning. Understanding the struggles most lower economic families face, the school provides space for studying post school hours in addition to breakfast, lunch and tiffin/supper. The school encourages the girls to learn extracurricular activities like yoga, music, chess, carom, and more.
Ganapathi Iyer Girls High School currently goes up to 10th grade, after which girls are requested to go to the Boys High School for 11thand 12th. Many parents feel uncomfortable sending their daughters to the nearby Boys High School, resulting in a high dropout rate. In order to include 11th and 12th in the Girls High School, the building requires a new floor to accommodate 6 new classrooms for the additional classes. Donated money will go towards the construction of the new classrooms, and thus provision of 11th and 12th grade education for these young girls. By incorporating the 11th and 12th grade, enrolment can also increase substantially, as it is more likely that girls would be able to pursue higher education after completing their schooling.
