Here’s How a Baby Gift Registry Helped New Mom, Shernaza!

Our baby arrived this June and we named our little wonder Zar— after Russian emperors. It also means gold in Persian and rolls off the tongue easily enough. He was a surrogate baby and we welcomed him with a baby gift registry.

How it all began…

We made that decision because I had certain medical conditions that made natural conception highly risky for both me and the baby. The decision and the journey was a hard one… I didn’t know anyone else who had opted for this route and so there was no one to guide me. Also, since I was never pregnant myself, it was hard to learn everything and feel the emotional connection. However, I was blessed with an amazing group of doctors and a team that trained me and taught me how to be a parent to our bundle.

Since surrogacies are considered to be risky till the very last month, we never really let it get real in our heads. That meant no pre-planning, no sharing of the news, no advice and no shopping. It was only after the 8th month that we felt safe enough to start preparing. And then we went into overdrive—from getting the list of essentials to getting everything organised.

Digital footprints

Here’s where our baby gift registry simplified our lives. We got a list of essentials we needed from our friends and added everything to our registry. My husband and I were very clear we wanted to use everything our loved ones gifted us and didn’t want wastage. So we added everything we would need for the first year. We found some amazing indigenous baby brands and we made sure they were part of our registry.

Our idea was to take a picture each time Zar used something and send it to the person who bought it. We were lucky because our friends just loved the idea. They were all familiar with a registry and grateful that we chose to do one. It really simplified their lives, especially for those who didn’t have babies and had no clue what to get the little one.

Our baby gift registry was fully bought out and we still had friends asking us to add more stuff. We couldn’t be more thankful for all the love and blessings Zar has received. We are excited to share innumerable photos of our baby using his gifts with the ones who gifted them!
