Here are some funny, serious, and informational bits of information about your baby shopping checklist that will help you sail through!

#1. It’s never as crazy as it looks in the beginning!

If you’re expecting for the first time, odds are that you would have got a baby shopping Excel from pretty much every well-meaning friend and family member. And as much as you want to make it your holy grail, you’ll realize that in time, you’ll make your own. It’s a matter of time and research, and as you start shopping, the list starts seeming simpler and more manageable. So don’t panic at the list of products you have no idea about. You’ll get there!

#2. Yes, a diaper pail is a real thing. But that doesn’t mean you need it!

You’ll see some really crazy items on your baby shopping list. There is the diaper pail or a special dustbin to dispose of diapers, which could cost well over 10 thousand. You have 100 different kinds of baby bedding options you absolutely need! And they’re about 10 different types of chairs for a tiny tiny baby. The important thing to remember is that babies survived and thrived well before all of this stuff came up. But having said that, there is no right or wrong here. If you think it will make your life easier, get it. If you think it’s a waste of money, don’t. Babies are resilient and all they really need is you.

#3. Expensive is not better.

When it comes to your baby, you want the best of everything. But the best does not always mean the most expensive. Forget the brands and think of the basics. Are the materials safe for your baby? Is the fabric pure cotton? Does the product have the basic functionality you need? That is all that matters. You will get the same swaddles and bedding at ridiculously varying price points, but you don’t have to choose the highest to be a good parent. Choose what serves your needs best.

#4. Rome was not built in a day. Neither will your baby’s nursery

Yes, we want everything to be ready before we welcome our little bundle of joy, but slow down and only get the essentials. There are things you will need after a few months of birth, others that you will discover you need as you go. Also, every baby is different—some love swaddling, some hate it. Some prefer diapers, and others nappies. Don’t be in a rush to have everything done NOW. Take it slow and remember, if you need something it’s just an online order away.

#5. Create a baby registry!

You already know the long list of things you’ll need and how expensive they are. You also know that your loved ones are going to gift you and the baby something special and memorable. Just combine the two by creating a beautiful baby registry, and it’s a win-win for everyone. You get the things you need and have to buy that much lesser. Your baby uses every single gift he/she receives at birth. And your guest is thrilled knowing their gift was loved and not regifted.
