We need the entertainment to spice up our mundane life. Maybe this is one of the reasons why we often look up to celebrities. We put them on pedestals and try to be inspired by them. From our wardrobe, diet to sometimes relationships. Yes, you heard it right. Relationships! It is natural to sometimes wish on the shooting star for a partner you saw on screen. Come on, who wouldn’t want Aditya from Jab We Met as your partner. He is cute and a perfect gentleman! But no matter how much chemistry a couple has on screen, nothing can beat an offscreen Bollywood fairytale! And let’s be honest, we all are suckers for a good love story.

#1. Shahrukh Khan & Gauri Khan
SRK was 18 when he bumped into Gauri Chibber at a party when she was 14 years old. He was too shy to approach her. After three meetings, he finally got her number and used to call pretending to be ‘Shaheen’ . For their first date, they met at Panchsheel Club and according to Anupama’s book, both of them ‘sat by the pool and nervously sipped colas.’ It barely lasted 5 minutes! As love blossomed, the possessiveness of SRK too reached the height. For instance, he asked her not to wear white shirts for fear of transparency, or leave her hair untied and even stop talking to other boys! A frustrated Gauri took a break and fled to Mumbai to get some space.
With just 10k, SRK, a true romanticist, went in search of his lady love in an unknown city. Finding each other at Gorai Beach, they realized that they can’t live without each other and decided to get married. A mammoth task was to convince Gauri’s Hindu Brahmin family. It was not easy but they faced them head-on and finally got hitched on October 25, 1991. Reportedly, producer F C Mehra told him to postpone his wedding until their film Chamatkar released, to which SRK reverted with an “I’d rather quit.”
#2. Sunil Dutt and Nargis
Considered as one of the fairytales of Bollywood, the love story of Sunil Dutt and Nargis is indeed adorable. Nargis was at the height of her career and was one of the leading ladies of Bollywood whereas Sunil Dutt was still a struggling actor. He had a huge crush on her but she was allegedly in a relationship with Raj Kapoor at the time, who was already married. After the relationship was over, she was so heartbroken that she even contemplated suicide. In the midst of all this, a fire scene went wrong on the sets of Mother India. Nargis was trapped in the fire and Sunil rescued her. As a result, he suffered several burns on his face and chest and was nursed back to health by Nargis. She grew closer to him and opened up about her past relationship.
The two got married in a secret ceremony in 1958. They didn’t make the news public for nearly a year. It was one of the most high-profile inter-religion marriages of the era. They stayed with their respective families and used to meet late at night and communicate through letters and telegrams. In 1959, after making the news of their marriage public, they held a reception and moved in together. The couple then had three children — Namrata, Priya, and Sanjay Dutt.
But the tragedy struck this happy family. In the 70s, Nargis was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She went into a coma, and doctors suggested taking her off the ventilator. But, Sunil didn’t agree and stayed by his wife’s side for the next four months. Finally, in April 1981, she regained consciousness and returned to Mumbai. But, on May 1, her condition deteriorated and on May 3, she breathed her last. Their love is everlasting and one of its kind. They didn’t let religion or career come in between their love. Acceptance and pure love, that’s what this relationship teaches us.
#3. Emraan Hashmi & Parveen Shahani
Considered as the Serial Kisser of Bollywood, Emraan Hashmi is also a loving and doting husband. Being the total opposite of his on-screen personality, Emraan and Parveen started dating in school. She supported him when he got his big break in Bollywood with the movie Murder and they tied the knot after going strong for 6 years. Though Parveen was supportive, it was not easy to gulp down Emraan’s onscreen intimacy. Emraan once revealed that Parveen dug her nails on his arms when she first saw him in the movie Murder as she was unaware of the scenes. They made a pact and for each kiss, he buys a bag for her!
Their son Ayaan was diagnosed with cancer when he was 4 years old. They stayed strong and got the best treatment for their son. Finally, Ayaan defeated cancer and they won the battle. Though they are not easily spotted at any red carpet events, they enjoy their private lives. Through ups and downs, the couple stayed strong and lovingly supported each other.
#4. Ayushman Khurrana & Tahira Kashyap
Ayushman and Tahira were batchmates at a tuition center for class 12th. She thought his name was Abhishek! Great start to the great love story. Tahira was one of the popular girls but she had eyes on Ayushman. They credit their parents for bringing them together. Their fathers were friends and had a family dinner at Ayushman’s house. The future couple got closer during the meet and he impressed her with his charm and singing skills. After dating throughout college, they both decided on their career.
After a dreamy proposal, they tied the knot. Even though he was a struggling actor, Tahira who was doing better in her career supported him wholeheartedly. There was never a moment where they let their ego talking. He became an overnight hit with his movie, Vicky Donor.
Tahira underwent surgery for stage 0 breast cancer. Cancer hit her again, this time at stage 1 but she fought back as a champ and Ayushman supported her at every step. She is not afraid to speak her mind and he always praises her for her bold move.
#5. Abhishek Bachchan & Aishwarya Rai

Started as co-stars filming for a movie in 1999, Abhishek and Aishwarya never expected to walk the aisle together. They were both dating other actors at the time but it never worked out. After being friends for years, they fell for each other while filming the song ‘kajra re’ in 2006. While he was shooting in New York, he thought to himself about proposing to her at the same balcony and he did it while promoting their movie Guru. The Bachchan’s didn’t waste any minute and initiated the Roka ceremony.
Not everything will go so smoothly right? A backup dancer tried committing suicide after hearing the news of the couple tying knot. She claimed that she was in a relationship with Abhishek. On top of it, the tabloid went abuzz with the news that Aishwarya was Manglik and as per the custom had to marry two trees. After all this interference, the couple finally tied the knot in a grand affair which was a mix of north and south. They even appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show and were more famous than Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie!
They welcomed their baby girl in 2011 and are now proud parents. Abhishek is a self-proclaimed fan of his wife and always cheered her for her international fame. He never let his ego come between their beautiful relationship and fiercely protects his family. Aishwarya on the other hand supports her husband and her best friend. Isn’t this cute!
