Budget Honeymoon Destinations You Should Consider

As global travel suffers a massive setback, couples have started being experimental with honeymoon ideas, thinking local, fun and affordable. If you’re tying the knot soon, don’t go spiralling into the web of quarantine rules across the world. #1. Srinagar

A popular honeymoon destination for couples who got married in the late 70s, this gem of a hill city is seeing an unimaginable resurgence. People from all over the country are flocking here in large numbers, and packed hotels have become the norm. Why? Because nothing beats the beauty of this gorgeous city. In addition, it has India’s best ski slopes, it has hill stations like Gulmarg and Pahalgam at driving distance and some of the most stunning properties to stay at. From curated B&Bs to uber luxury properties like the Taj Srinagar or Khyber in Gulmarg, the options are endless and fit every budget.

Pros: Lots of outdoor activities, picture-perfect backdrops and nature at its finest.

Cons: You’ll have to book in advance and check for the COVID situation which has been fluctuating here. Ideal for: Those who want to relax and unwind in the lap of luxury with some of the best views you can get.

#2. Andaman and Nicobar Islands

Another stunning destination for couples to escape to post the wedding are these gorgeous islands in southern India. They’re all about pristine beaches, underwater activities and basically just unwinding. These islands propagate a simple life and you’ll get to enjoy some really earthy cuisines, literally live on the beach and just enjoy each others company. You can land into Port Blair and then just enjoy a few days of nothingness. The islands are so beautiful that any property on the beach will feel like paradise, so you can really plan your budget with flexibility.  They are the best honeymoon destinations on a budget.

Pros: Stunning beaches, lots of outdoor activities, amazing food

Cons: If you’re not a beach bum, it’s most certainly not for you. Also, it’s a laidback destination, so if you’re looking to party, look else where Ideal for Water babies, who want to do nothing but sip a cold beer on a beautiful beach and soak in the sun.

#3. Galle, Sri Lanka

If your heart is set on travelling abroad, one of the best honeymoon destinations on a budget is Galle in Sri Lanka. The country has not just opened its borders to vaccinated Indians, but also given a one plus one ticket offer for the rest of the year. And this island country has so much to offer. Head to Galle, a Dutch fort town which is a few hours drive from Colombo. It magically takes you into an old European vibe and is filled with quaint eateries, curated shops and a very high design sensibility. When you want a break from this ambience, drive down to Unawatuna, one of the most ‘happening’ beaches in Sri Lanka for some unforgettable partying. This holiday has a bit of everything—architecture, culture, shopping, partying, beach time and so much more.

Pros: There a lot of places at driving distance so you’ll be busy. Also, some amazing crockery and cottons shopping

Cons: With the pandemic, travel norms are constantly changing and you may want to factor that in when travelling here.

Ideal for: Those looking to have a mixed bag of activities and a holiday that offers a bit of everything.
