We all know this is true: As a country, we love weddings. The term “Big Fat Indian Wedding” is more than just a term, it’s actually an accurate description of how much we love the event. Scratch that, it’s an understatement. As per reports, an average Indian wedding can cost anywhere from Rs. 20 lacs, and upto 5 crores. And apparently, Indians spend approximately 20% of their lifetime earnings on the celebration of the union of souls.

But this is just an estimation of an average Indian wedding. What about the Most Expensive Weddings in India? Well, you can go through this list and find out for yourself. But brace yourself to read all about the costliest weddings in India! Some of these numbers are just incredible! 

Anand Piramal and Isha Ambani (Rs. 700 Crores)

Anand Piramal, son of industrialist Ajay Piramal, and Isha Ambani, daughter of India’s richest man, Mukesh Ambani got married to each other in 2018. And boy did they make it to the Most expensive Weddings in India in style!

The wedding invitation card apparently cost Rs. 3 lacs! To put that in perspective, India’s per capita income in the year 2020 was close to Rs. 1.5 Lacs. This means they spent twice as much on the invitation card as an average Indian makes in a year!

This wedding was a grand celebration, and the guest list included former first lady of the USA, Hillary Clinton. For the festivities, a performance by American superstar Beyonce was organised. Talk about planning big celebrations, it doesn’t really get bigger than this.

Sushanto Roy and Seemanta Roy’s Double wedding (Rs. 550 Crores)

In 2004, Subrato Roy, chairman of Sahara India Pariwar, organised a wedding for both his sons, Sushanto Roy and Seemanta Roy at the same time. The double wedding took place in Lucknow, and they married Richa and Chandini respectively.

But they were not the only people who got married on that day. Subrato Roy also decided to get over 100 underprivileged girls married as well. His guests, about 11,000 of them in total, were flown in on private jets. There were about 110 different cuisines that were served, and apart from the guests, food was also given to 150,000 beggars on the day!

The guest list of this star wedding included celebrities like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kapil Dev!

Brahmani Reddy and Rajeev Reddy (Rs 500 Crores)

In 2016, Brahmani Reddy, daughter of Karnataka’s mining baron, Janardhana Reddy, married Rajeev Reddy, the son of an industrialist from Hyderabad, in a wedding that was estimated to cost a whopping Rs. 500 Crores!

The bride’s jewellery alone was estimated to cost 25 crores and was made entirely of diamonds. The saree she wore was also estimated to cost 17 crores. Also, the wedding invites featured a small LCD screen that played a video featuring the couple and other family members as well.

The event itself was spread over five full days, and around 50,000 people were estimated to have attended the wedding which made its mark amongst the list of most expensive marriages in India

Srishti Mittal and Gulraj Behl (Rs. 500 Crore)

Srishti Mittal, daughter of Pramod Mittal and niece of Indian Steel Magnate Lakshmi Mittal married Gulraj Behal in 2013. The total cost of this wedding is estimated to be Rs. 500 crores! There were a lot of extravagant things at this wedding, including a 60 kg cake that was made especially for the event.

Cooks and butlers were flown all the way to Barcelona, Spain for the wedding, from India and Thailand. The 500 guests who were present at the wedding actually had to sign a confidentiality agreement to attend!

Helicopters were flying around the venue in order to capture the best pictures from all angles of one of the Most expensive Marriages in India. There was also a light and water show, and fireworks were also set off to dazzle the guests. In fact, the wedding was so big that the Montjuic district in the city was cut off from traffic, and national museums were also closed to the public on account of the wedding!
