#1. Astha Agarwal

Astha had a destination wedding in Thailand and it was simply gorgeous. She wore a dark maroon Sabyasachi lehenga for her wedding and we absolutely loved the colour and the intricate handwork that Sabya is well known for. Here’s the story in her own words

Why did you choose Sabyasachi for your wedding?

“This was actually not my first Sabyasachi piece. I’ve always been buying Sabyasachi and have admired his work and designs. For me, it was a very natural choice to go with him for my wedding because he was THE designer for me.”

How did you feel wearing a Sabyasachi lehenga at your wedding?

“It definitely made me feel amazing. Another wonderful experience I had was that Badshah performed at my wedding. So it was no less than a star wedding for me and I felt really special that day!”

Why did you choose this specific lehenga?

This lehenga was actually not the first one I chose. But when I was about to do the fitting for the previously chosen lehenga, I was told that the new collection was arriving in a month. When I went in after a month, this dark maroon lehenga caught my eye and I instantly fell in love with the handwork.

#2. Vandana Goyal

They are literally what you would call newly-weds, given that we spoke to her on her honeymoon! Sandeep and Vandana got married this July, and it was everything they’d imagined—light-hearted, fun and the perfect beginning to their forever after! 

Why did you choose Sabyasachi for your wedding?

When it comes to weddings, he’s the first name that comes to mind! Sabya’s designs can make any bride feel like a princess, and who doesn’t want to feel like royalty on their big day?

How did you feel wearing a Sabyasachi lehenga at your wedding?

Beautiful. When I looked in the mirror after getting ready, it took me a couple of minutes to recognise myself! I was like “is this really me!” 

Why did you choose this specific lehenga?

I wanted my wedding outfit to reflect me — tradition mixed with modernity. So I went for this stunning red Sabyasachi lehenga and added a contemporary teal dupatta to give it a slightly quirky twist. 

#3. Madhuri Khemani

Madhuri had the quintessential big fat Indian wedding in Delhi. While her wedding was extraordinary, the lehenga was equally fabulous. 

Why did you choose Sabyasachi for your wedding?

I wanted something traditional, intricate and yet not over-the-top, so it had to be Sabyasachi. Who better? Also, when you walk into a Sabyasachi store it’s almost like you go back into an ethereal era and everything looks larger than life. It makes you want to get married!

How did you feel wearing a Sabyasachi lehenga at your wedding?

I was a very happy bride. I felt nothing short of royalty on my big day!

Why did you choose this specific lehenga?

When I was about to look for my wedding lehenga, I got a call from the Sabyasachi store saying that the designer himself would be in Delhi, taking personal appointments. I immediately signed up. The lehenga was the one that he picked out for me. He handpicked some jewellery from the store as well to give me an idea of the overall look and when I tried it, it was indefinitely love!

#4. Tanvi Saraf

Raghav & Tanvi got married in 2013 in Delhi, and it was everything you would imagine a Delhi wedding to be! Lots of food, drinks, dance and celebration, with functions ranging from Vegas-inspired poker night to traditional mehendi and Bhaat. 

Why did you choose Sabyasachi for your wedding? 

When I started shopping for my wedding, I didn’t really have a designer in mind, but rather a look I wanted. Since I was getting married in July (the peak of Delhi summer) I knew I wanted something light, summery and easy to wear. Sabyasachi is a legend when it comes to bridalwear, so obviously, his was one of the first stores I visited. As luck would have it, it was love at first sight for me. I found more than what I was looking for and ended up wearing his outfits for two of my functions. 

How did wearing it make you feel? 

Amazing. That’s the only word for it. Most women love the Sabyasachi aesthetic, but what’s equally amazing is the care and detail they put into making each garment. The clothes are perfectly tailored, fitted to perfection and just make you feel wonderful! 

And talk a bit about the outfit—why choose that outfit, what was it like. 

My wedding outfit was a beautiful shade of coral-meets-orange. It was perfect for summer. It had a long corseted blouse which worked for me, and it was not heavy but still pretty, a look that I was very keen on. For my sangeet, the look was much more signature to the designer. The deep red blouse, offset by the cream Sabyasachi lehenga looked beautiful. Plus, it was something I knew I could wear as separates for years to come.

5. Ashmitha Reddy

Why did you choose Sabyasachi for your wedding?

To begin with, I had no plans of getting a Sabyasachi lehenga. Although I love the designer, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to spend so much on something I’ll never wear again. I visited his store in Mumbai to pick up a saree for my mom, and as we were leaving, she asked me to try one of the lehengas to know what it feels like to wear a Sabyasachi. The first one that caught my eye was an off-white lehenga with big flowers hand-painted on them. Even at this point, I had no intention of buying it. However, everything changed once I tried it on! My mom and I fell in love with it! And there was no turning back after that! So basically, it was the only lehenga I tried out and that’s what I ended up buying. 

How did you feel wearing a Sabyasachi lehenga at your wedding?

Definitely special. I was ecstatic wearing one at my wedding. 

Why did you choose this specific lehenga?

I had been trying out a lot of lehengas from other stores – branded and non-branded. There were moments I’ve told myself “these lehengas are as beautiful as a Sabyasachi lehenga, so why spend so much for an original?”. But like I mentioned, everything changed once I put it on! It was ornate, floral, dramatic and dignified, all at once. 

I’m big on florals so this definitely caught my eye. I wanted something fresh. Something which didn’t just have yards and yards of embroidered fabric. The flowers on my lehenga are individually hand-painted and hence, no two lehengas are ever the same. Moreover, the off white colour and the minimal embroidery told me I could still try and wear it for another occasion( still hoping! )

#6.  Devika Mishra

Why did you choose Sabyasachi for your wedding?

My mum and uncle knew Sabyasachi and so there was no doubt that I’d be wearing a Sabyasachi lehenga for my wedding. When you compare other lehengas with his, you can definitely see that they are not as Indian or as bridal as his. So, choosing him to design my lehenga was a no-brainer.

How did you feel wearing a Sabyasachi lehenga at your wedding?

I felt very good. I felt like a princess and everyone was complimented my lehenga and my looks. My jewellery and makeup was planned according to my lehenga as it was the star of the show. (Aside from me, that is!)

Why did you choose this specific lehenga?

My lehenga was well thought of. When I visited his store I initially loved a Blue Velvet one. Then I asked him if there were any other colours and he showed me a Maroon Velvet lehenga. As soon as I stepped out wearing the Maroon lehenga everyone loved it and Sabya himself told me that I have to get the lehenga. After that, I  had a few sessions with Sabya where we discussed on the lehenga’s design. So it was well planned.

#7. Ritu Garg

Ritu had a fairytale wedding in Uttrakhand which even had Kumaoni bagpipers. While the whole wedding was larger than life, she mentions that she still gets goosebumps when she goes back to the memory of trying her bridal lehenga for the very first time. Here’s the story!

Why did you choose Sabyasachi for your wedding?

To be honest I am not someone who is well aware of designers and the sorts. My sister-in-law was the one who was into designers and she introduced me to Sabyasachi. I initially visited a lot of designers but once I visited the Sabyasachi store, I just fell in love with the designs. They had a royal look and the designs were very Indian so I loved them. 

Why did you choose this specific lehenga?

As mentioned earlier the lehenga was multi-coloured and it made me stand out of the crowd. I truly feel that on a bride’s special day, the spotlight should be on her and the Sabyasachi lehenga did exactly that and made me feel really special on my big day. 

How did you feel wearing a Sabyasachi lehenga at your wedding?

I felt like royalty that day. I still cherish those moments and I am still completely in love with my lehenga. It was multi-coloured and it made me stand out of the crowd.

#8. Kumpal Mittal

Kumpal had a traditional, big fat Marwari wedding in Mumbai with a fleet of functions, a larger than life sangeet and a whole lot of madness! 

Why did you choose Sabyasachi for your wedding?

I chose Sabyasachi for my wedding because his designs are Indian and traditional. I don’t like the modern take on lehengas. Also, I think a wedding is a very traditional thing and I think the outfit should also reflect it. Of course, I also chose Sabyasachi because I love his designs, his work and his colour combinations.

How did you feel wearing a Sabyasachi lehenga at your wedding?

It made me feel really good. I absolutely loved and thoroughly enjoyed the day!

Why did you choose this specific lehenga?

I like the colour red to be associated with weddings. I definitely wanted red at my wedding and this entire chunni is red. So when I draped it over my head, the colour was seen clearly. I also loved the work and the embroidery. I am partial to pastels and I really don’t like shiny stuff. The lehenga was ‘ME’ because of the colour, the threadwork and it also was very subtle and nice. Also, the lehenga was not over-the-top heavy. I was really comfortable and enjoyed my day!

#9. Divya Poddar Arya

Divya got married in Delhi in a traditional and grand ceremony with all the ingredients of a memorable day! 

Why did you choose Sabyasachi for your wedding?

When I was browsing for my bridal outfit, there was no other designer that I could think of other than Sabyasachi who beautifully blends in traditional designs and fabrics with a contemporary look

How did you feel wearing a Sabyasachi lehenga at your wedding?

I felt absolutely royal wearing such a beautiful garment. A must-have designer outfit for every bride to be!

Why did you choose this specific lehenga?

I had chosen a traditional red Sabyasachi lehenga for my wedding. However, I was lucky that Sabyasachi was there himself during my bridal fittings and decided to give a contemporary twist to my outfit. He designed a blue blouse and a stunning yellow dupatta with my red lehenga. However, he stuck to the traditional Zardosi red veil over my head. He even guided me with my wedding jewellery to complete the look of the entire outfit and it turned out to be spectacular!
